Brennan played his collegiate level hockey for St. Scholastica at the NCAA D3 level, from there went on to a successful playing career in Europe. In 2014 He began his coaching career and in 2016 joined the University of Minnesota Mankato where he has helped their goaltenders establish Mankato as a top ten program in the NCAA.

For the 2021-22 Season Brennan worked as the goalie coach for the University of MInnesota Golden Gophers, helping the team to reach the Frozen Four.
