Ray is a veteran in the NHL coaching ranks having begun his pro career in 1999 as an Assistant Coach with the LA Kings. Along with the Kings Ray has also coached with the St. Louis Blues and currently with the Colorado Avalanche.

Ray was instrumental with Hockey Canada in the late 90s as a Video Coach on various teams.
